Senior Volunteers II: 13 Volunteer Opportunities

Last week I spoke about the benefits seniors (and others) could receive by donating their time and talents to a cause or organization.  I stated there were two parties benefitting. That’s not true, there are three. The third party is, of course, the organization needing the volunteers.  People who do volunteer asserts Christina Majaski, a freelance writer and editor, usually join causes or groups that have special meaning to them. Furthermore, many groups would, were it not for volunteers, have to close their doors. Today I will be sharing groups and institutions dependent on volunteers to help serve the community.

  • Church
  • YMCA
  • Library
  • SCORE
  • Museum
  • Hospital
  • Scouts
  • Senior Center
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Animal shelter
  • Zoo
  • United Way
  • Other

The above list is in no way comprehensive. This is merely a sampling of organizations dependent on volunteers. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of groups needing free help. It is my hope this list inspires you or your senior to investigate further a cause he or she would like to join.
